Writivate Awarded Massachusetts GROW Grant to Design a Pathway into Regulatory Medical Writing

DEDHAM, Mass., November 4, 2025 – Writivate, LLC, a Dedham-based workforce development company focused on careers in medical writing and the life sciences, has received a Grants for Registered Apprenticeship Opportunities in Workforce (GROW) award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Writivate is one of 34 organizations included in the Healey-Driscoll Administration's announcement today of $2.1 million in GROW funding. The company received $10,000 to design and pilot an accelerator program for entry into roles in regulatory medical writing. GROW grants support the expansion of Registered Apprenticeship in Massachusetts and are administered by the Division of Apprentice Standards.

"The GROW grants are an effective way to expand Registered Apprenticeship opportunities that connect people to good jobs and help build a skilled workforce," Governor Maura Healey said in the state's announcement.

"Medical writing and the wider life sciences offer rewarding careers, but the way in isn't always visible to people who have the talent for this work. The GROW grant gives us the chance to design a clear, practical on-ramp, and we're grateful to the Division of Apprentice Standards for its support," said Jeanette Towles, President of Writivate.

Update: The Writivate Pre-Apprenticeship

The program designed with this grant is now the Writivate Pre-Apprenticeship, a readiness program that prepares participants to pursue Registered Apprenticeships, internships, and entry-level roles in medical and regulatory writing, scientific communication, quality, compliance, and related fields. It is built for people with the aptitude for life-sciences work but not yet the pathway, including career changers, first-generation professionals, returning workers, veterans, and anyone new to regulated workplaces.

The curriculum covers seven competency areas: life sciences industry orientation; scientific and technical literacy; regulatory environment and quality readiness; professional and workplace skills; SOP and instructional fluency; technology, digital fluency, and AI awareness; and equity, access, and career navigation. AI literacy is taught with a human-in-the-loop focus: participants learn to use AI as a tool that supports professional judgment, never one that replaces it. Participants complete a capstone portfolio and a career action plan, and those who meet program requirements may earn a Writivate Certificate of Completion.
